Wisdom of the Ancients

Benjamin Franklin:

“Since the foundation of all happiness is thinking rightly, and since correct action is dependent on correct opinion, we cannot be too careful in choosing the value system we allow to govern our thoughts and actions.

“And to know that God governs in the affairs of men, that he hears and answers prayers, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him, is indeed, a powerful regulator of human conduct.”

Study Finds Eating Red Meat Contributes to Risk of Early Death
By Rob Stein
Washington Post Staff Writer
Monday, March 23, 2009; 4:06 PM

Eating red meat increases the chances of dying prematurely, according to a large federal study that offers powerful new evidence that a diet that regularly includes steaks, burgers and pork chops is hazardous to your health.

The study of more than 500,000 middle-age and elderly Americans found that those who consumed the equivalent of about a small hamburger every day were more than 30 percent more likely to die during the 10 years they were followed, mostly from heart disease and cancer. Sausage, cold cuts and other processed meats also increased the risk.

-------REVELATION TO JOSEPH SMITH - TRUE PROPHET OF GOD-------

D&C 89:12-13 Yea, flesh also of beasts and of the fowls of the air, I, the Lord, have ordained for the use of man with thanksgiving; nevertheless they are to be used sparingly; And it is pleasing unto me that they should not be used, only in times of winter, or of cold, or famine.

Ye Elders of Israel

As High Councilor, I attended a singles ward conference yesterday with other stake people. In EQ we sang "Ye Elders of Israel" in very full harmony. The Spirit was all over the place. It sounded so good. I felt like I was in the middle of MOTAB on caffeine. If you were one of the guys in there, leave a comment on it as well.

Hope vs. Despair

At this time in our world's history, the latter-day saints are...

2 Cor 4:8-9 ...troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed.

D&C 27:15 Wherefore, lift up your hearts and rejoice, and gird up your loins, and take upon you my whole armor, that ye may be able to withstand the evil day, having done all, that ye may be able to stand.

Worlds Without Number

Moses 1:33-35

And worlds without number have I created; and I also created them for mine own purpose; and by the Son I created them, which is mine Only Begotten.

And the first man of all men have I called Adam, which is many.

But only an account of this earth, and the inhabitants thereof, give I unto you. For behold, there are many worlds that have passed away by the word of my power. And there are many that now stand, and innumerable are they unto man; but all things are numbered unto me, for they are mine and I know them.

The Evil of Pornography

The LDS Church is one of the last institutions on the earth to look Satan straight in the face and declare evil when it presents itself. Look at this inspired quote from a modern apostle of Jesus Christ:

"Pornography impairs one’s ability to enjoy a normal emotional, romantic, and spiritual relationship with a person of the opposite sex. It erodes the moral barriers that stand against inappropriate, abnormal, or illegal behavior. As conscience is desensitized, patrons of pornography are led to act out what they have witnessed, regardless of its effects on their life and the lives of others." — Elder Dallin H. Oaks

I personally don't know exactly when the spirit enters the "body", but I do know that we should err on the side of caution when it comes to life and death. I agree with North Dakota. It looks like some people are still God-fearing.

Life-Changing Decision

On January 23, 2009 our new president decided to lift the ban on federally funded abortions. This means that the American tax payers are now funding abortions.

It's amazing to me and it racks my soul with torment to think that my money is going to be used to kill children. Is the Church of the Devil is ramping up it's fight against truth and righteousness?

Hope

Many people across America are using the word "hope" lately.
Unfortunately, they do not see Christ as the central figure of hope. They see Barack Obama as the fulfillment of hope. While Barack can make policy decisions for one country on this planet, he cannot bring peace to the world or solve world hunger and disease.

Christ can and will. People right now are impatient for the Messiah to come and solve our problems, so they are looking at Barack as a pseudo-Savior or pre-Messiah. I will pray for Barack to succeed as President of one country, but I will pray to God that Christ the Savior can bring healing to all nations.

Day of Faith: Personal Quests for a Purpose

Lift Where You Stand

Posted by Glen Ames at 11:15 AM

Friday, January 9, 2009

Recently, Elder Uchtdorf gave a talk titled "Lift Where You Stand", in which he told a story about a few men and boys trying to move a grand piano from one room to another. They struggled for a while, moving people around to various positions before a wise individual suggested they simply lift where they each stood. It worked, and it magically rose in the air and moved into place.

What do WE lift where WE stand?

1) Eyes in faith, looking to Christ as our example.
2) Hands in sustaining our teachers and leaders.
3) Standard or banner of Zion
4) Voices in proclaiming the gospel
5) Hearts in faith and prayer
6) Others by serving
